Why Should I Care About Searching by Enhanced Subject Headings?
A Standard Subject Heading Search shows only those terms which have citations.
A citation is when a title exists in the library collection which uses the search term.
It means that the library has access to a resource ( at least one book, journal, pamphlet, etc. ) that uses the title.
So whats the difference between a Standard and Enhanced Subject Heading Search?
Enhanced Subject Heading Searches show all of the relevant related search terms, even if the terms arent in use in the collection (ie., even if there are no citations for your library).
So, how does this help the researcher?
Because you can select one or more of these terms and then Explode it, a process which finds all related terms with citations
even terms you might not have thought to use. The computer assists you in your search.
