No. MARC records can be exported from many catalogs on the Internet, including the Library of Congress and the National Library of Medicine. Once exported, these can be added to CyberTools by using [Import a MARC Bib File] on the Cataloging Menu. If you have ISBNs or ISSNs for the titles, then use [Interactive Z39.50 MARC Bib Import] to import MARC bibliographic records. This latter function directly imports bibs from a source catalog into your catalog so it's very fast and easy to use. See Quick Tour: Interactive Z39.50 MARC Bib Import for a detailed explanation.
The Connexion Download Export Files process needs to be done twice. If you have only done this once, repeat the process. Also, make sure that when you saved the file to your computer, it was saved as a .txt file. A MARC file readable by CyberTools looks like a long string of numbers and characters.
CyberTools detected that these imported bibs were in the catalog thus set their batch status to CANCEL. CANCEL prevents the imported bibs from overlaying the existing bibs in the catalog. To verify, search the catalog to see whether these titles already exist. If you are part of a union catalog, then they could have been entered by another library. All union catalogs share the MARC bibs.
A message regarding a Holdings Profile may appear. This indicates that the MARC bib already has an item attached to it.
You see this message immediately after the import and before Batch Control.
The purpose of the message is to allow you to copy an item's call number to the bib
itself, e.g., to tags 090, 092, 096, or 099. This is usually unnecessary with OCLC. However, you will see a similar
message after you run [Update Catalog with Batch]. This step generates your CyberTools items from your OCLC holdings.
See slide Update Holdings in this presentation.
If you have more than one profile, choose the OCLC profile.
