Overview

Analytic Linkage connects a secondary bibliographical record, called an analytical entry or simply an analytic, to an item that is already attached to its primary bibliographic record. An analytic entry can be made for a particular issue of a serial. (See below: the Primary Bib, the Serial Issue, and the Secondary Bib.)

Analytics give your patrons more information about special or titled serial issues. For example, if a member of your organization contributes to a journal owned by the library, then an analytic entry can highlight your colleague's contribution.

This tutorial's example is for a monographic serial, "a clinic", where each issue is a theme. An analytic bib attached to the issue enriches the catalog.
